Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton is merging with a Chicago law firm, a move that will significantly increase the combined firms’ presence and corporate-focused practice in the city.

Kilpatrick Townsend is merging with HMB Legal Counsel, a firm with more than 55 lawyers, according to a Jan. 10 press release and Law.com.

The smaller firm’s corporate and private equity practices will “significantly enhance the depth and breadth of Kilpatrick Townsend’s corporate department, particularly our mergers and acquisitions practice area,” said J. Henry Walker IV, chair and CEO at Kilpatrick Townsend, in the press release.

The merger takes effect March 1. Kilpatrick Townsend has more than 600 lawyers in 19 U.S. cities and four international offices. It entered the Chicago market in March 2023, when it merged with L&G Law Group Lawyers, according to Law.com.

According to Reuters, the merger is among several tie-ups announced this week. Others include Fennemore Craig’s merger with a 12-lawyer Seattle firm and Barclay Damon’s merger with a 10-lawyer firm in Washington, D.C.
