Video Tour Diary Day 8: ‘Merry Band of Litigators’ & the Story Within the Story

Another late night, followed by an early morning made getting right back in the tour vehicle a little rough.


Another late night, followed by an early morning made getting right back in the tour vehicle a little rough.But we were caffeinated and wide awake by the time we rolled into Arlington, Va., the home of the Institute for Justice, which touts itself as the nation’s only libertarian public interest law firm.

We met with our Rebel of the Day: Chip Mellor, the IJ’s president and general counsel. He talked about how the firm uses humor and a large dose of irreverence to draw attention to issues they care about. That’s not to say this legal team is all comedy and no action – they take their cases very seriously. But, they don’t take themselves too seriously. And that makes the office a great place to work day in and day out.

It’s also worth noting that we increased our entourage numbers during the IJ visit. Virginia State Bar President John D. Huddleston (@VA4GoodLawyers), with camerawoman in tow, met up with us to talk new media in the legal profession. And so did Patrick Dowd, a reporter from Legal Bisnow.
